Red Energy
: Blending heritage with innovation for a modern, collaborative workspace
Red Energy’s office transformation within the historic Bryant and May factory in Cremorne, Melbourne, merges the building’s heritage with contemporary functionality, creating a modern, collaborative workspace that fosters innovation. The design, led by Carr, carefully balances the factory’s iconic historical elements with flexible, open-plan spaces where over 1,000 staff can thrive.
The challenge was to source and furnish a dynamic office environment that could accommodate diverse work styles across departments, from customer service to business and technology, while preserving the building’s heritage. This required a workspace that would feel cohesive, promote social interaction, and serve as a flexible hub for collaboration, all while respecting the building’s unique architectural features.
TCW collaborated closely with the design team, sourcing over 60 I.AM tables from Thinking Works and more than 1,500 Flo monitor arms from Colebrook Bosson Saunders. These ergonomic, adjustable pieces support diverse workstyles and contribute to a seamless flow of spaces across the building. The functional and adaptable furniture promotes both individual focus and collaborative activities, ensuring that every corner of the office feels connected and conducive to productivity. By selecting products with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility, the project aligns with Red Energy’s commitment to long-term value and environmental stewardship.
The Red Energy office now thrives as a vibrant, functional workspace that blends heritage and innovation. The thoughtful integration of ergonomic furniture solutions supports the diverse needs of employees, enabling them to feel engaged and productive. By sourcing high-quality, sustainable products, the project not only meets current needs but also contributes to a workspace that will continue to serve Red Energy’s evolving needs, creating a space where the company can continue to thrive for years to come. The project exemplifies the power of partnerships, where design, function, and sustainability intersect to create spaces that are both functional and inspiring.
