Gordon Library Refurbishment: Refreshed Community Space
Located on the Pacific Highway in Gordon, this project reflects a forward-thinking approach to public library environments—comfortable, community-centric, and intentionally designed to go beyond the “usual” expectations of library furniture. Serving the local government sector, Gordon Library sought a furniture solution that would elevate user experience while enhancing the welcoming atmosphere of the space.
Gordon Library needed an upgrade that would revitalise its interior while addressing the diverse needs of students, readers, and community members. Standard library seating options lacked the softness, comfort, and contemporary appeal the team envisioned. The goal was to find furniture that delivered durability without compromising on design—something refined, inviting, and more engaging than traditional library furniture.
To meet this brief, Dauphin’s Atelier collection was selected for its soft finishes, versatility, and elevated design language. The solution included 16 new sofas in a mix of contrary fabric finishes to introduce texture and visual interest throughout the library.
The final furniture package consisted of:
• Single Atelier sofas with integrated writing tablets
• Two-person Atelier sofas
• Three-person Atelier sofas
The combination of these seating options provided flexibility for individual study, small group collaboration, and casual lounging, all while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic drawn from the standard Dauphin Collection.
The refreshed Gordon Library interior now offers a warm, modern, and community-focused environment. The introduction of Atelier sofas has transformed the space—improving comfort, creating inviting zones, and elevating the overall experience for visitors. The project successfully demonstrates how thoughtful furniture selection can enhance the character and functionality of a public facility, resulting in a library that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to its community.
