Advancing Health and Well-being Through Design
The Charles Perkins Centre is dedicated to tackling obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease by translating cutting-edge research into real-world solutions. As part of the University of Sydney, it houses a $385 million research and education hub designed to foster innovation and collaboration in health sciences.

Challenge
To furnish a large-scale, high-performance research and education hub that supports a diverse range of activities, from scientific labs to collaborative learning spaces, while ensuring sustainability, functionality, and adaptability across various departments.

Solution
TCW worked closely with the University and architects to procure and deliver high-quality furniture solutions that met the brief in terms of design, materials, and durability, while also adhering to lead time and budget constraints. Key elements included:
• Dauphin Tec Stools: Designed for high-concentration activities, these stools provide ergonomic support while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness—perfect for laboratory environments. Their longevity and specialized design make them a continual choice for other University projects focused on quality seating.
• ThinkingWorks Tables: We supplied 600 locally manufactured tables, tailored to the specific requirements of each learning and research space. These tables offer the flexibility and functionality needed to support both individual and group activities within a collaborative environment.

Results
The Charles Perkins Centre now offers a dynamic, sustainable environment that supports the University of Sydney’s commitment to health and well-being. The carefully chosen furniture solutions promote productivity, collaboration, and a sense of belonging within the research and learning spaces. The Centre stands as a model of how design can facilitate excellence in both academic and practical applications, ensuring long-term success and well-being.
