Places to meet in a 14-storey home for health research
Completed in 2025 beside the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, the UNSW Health Translation Hub brings researchers, clinicians, educators, industry and public health teams together in one 35,000 m² building. Designed by Architectus and built by Hansen Yuncken, it wraps a four-level atrium where people from across the precinct cross paths.

Challenge
The podium’s long, light-filled galleries needed to work as places to stop, not just pass through: somewhere to meet between labs, clinics and teaching rooms, comfortable enough to linger in and tough enough for a building in use from early morning to late.

Solution
Clusters of deep-blue upholstered tub chairs gather around round timber tables along the glazing, with long banquettes against the walls, so the galleries read as a series of small meeting places that look out over the street and down into the atrium.

Results
Every level of the podium now has somewhere to sit down and talk, which is the point of a building designed to turn research into better care.
